Ottawa Patient Decision Aid Development eTraining and Toolkit


The Development Toolkit is a set of resources for people developing patient decision aids.
It proposes:

  • The Ottawa Patient Decision Aid Development eTraining (ODAT) is an online, self-guided tutorial that takes people through the Ottawa patient decision aid development process.
  • Information about the International Patient Decision Aid Standards (IPDAS) Collaboration that established an internationally approved set of criteria to enhance determine the quality of patient decision aids.
  • Information about the Reporting Guidelines titled the SUNDAE Checklist (Standards for UNiversal reporting of patient Decision Aid Evaluation studies) that has 26-items and is intended for authors and researchers designing and reporting on studies evaluating patient decision aids.
    These guidelines are available on the EQUATOR reporting guidelines website.
  • Information on the publications and progress of the Cochrane systematic review of patient decision aids for health treatment or screening decisions.
  • The Decision Aid Library Inventory (DALI) system where developers can register their publicly available patient decision aids.
    They can also download the current Complete Inventory to see what other developers are working on now and have worked on in the past.
  • The Decisional Needs Assessment in Populations Workbook : Originally written in 1999 and updated in 2013, this workbook outlines the steps in completing an assessment of the decision making needs of individuals or a population.
